The Headless Nun

Perhaps one of the most famous pieces of folklore along the banks of the Miramichi River is that of the Headless Nun.

As the story goes, Sister Marie Inconnu, a French missionary, was charged with the task of protecting a very valuable treasure. This treasure, sought after by many, would inevitably lead to her untimely demise. One night, two men mad with leprosy attacked Sister Marie Inconnu, decapitating her and stealing her treasure. It is unknown if the two men escaped, however, the head of Sister Marie Inconnu has never been found. It is said that anyone who enters French Fort Cove in search of her treasure, will be forever haunted by the Headless Nun.

Dare the Dark with the Headless Nun is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Miramichi region. Recognized as part of Tourism New Brunswick’s Experience Collection, visitors are led into the depths of French Fort Cove after dark to search for the forbidden treasure. Who will you meet along your journey? Will you survive an encounter with the Headless Nun?
